
Shuyang Ling is Assistant Provost for Doctoral Affairs and Associate Professor of Data Science and Mathematics at NYU Shanghai, as well as a Global Network Associate Professor at NYU. In his role as Assistant Provost for Doctoral Affairs, he is responsible for Ph.D. affairs at NYU Shanghai, including doctoral program development, admissions and recruitment, faculty advising and resource coordination, student academic progress and success, and doctoral partnerships.
Ling joined NYU Shanghai in 2019. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, he was a Courant Instructor and Assistant Professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and the Center for Data Science at New York University from 2017 to 2019. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and M.S. in Statistics from the University of California, Davis.
Ling’s research focuses on the mathematical foundations of data science and machine learning, with particular interests in optimization, applied harmonic analysis, and statistics.
